COPD News:

What we read.
I make it a point to try and read as many of the Publications dealing with COPD, Emphysema or other lung diseases as possible and frankly so should you. Every day someone comes up with new ideas that might be helpful for us but unfortunately they to not always reach our Doctors. Those of us who make it a point to research the subject daily, often find new medications before our busy professionals do. There is no reason at all, not to share all we learn with each other and with our doctors.

American Thoracic Society meets in San Diego May 2009.

ATS 2009 • San Diego will include topics such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, multiple organ dysfunction, obesity and lung health, pleural infection, interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, and drug-resistant tuberculosis. The Clinical Year in Review, Clinical Topics in Pulmonary Medicine, and the Critical Care Track offer focused, in depth education. Scientific and translational sessions will examine genetics, the biology of hypoxia, airway remodeling, lung injury and repair, and pulmonary hypertension. The ATS presents a thriving, interactive venue for the presentation of original research, and last year 5,603 scientific abstracts were presented at the Conference. A major strength of our International Conference is the ability of clinicians and researchers to interact and to exchange ideas. More...

New medications
This section will be devoted to any new medications on the market that we find anywhere in the world. If you hear of anything new that we have not mentioned here, please let us know so we can spread the word. We can also discuss our experiences with new drugs here. Good or bad results are equally important, as they may help someone else make a more informed decision on whether or not  to add a new drug or change medications.

Trials under way right now
This title is self explanatory, keep an eye open for any new trials you hear off and we will publish them here.
If you hear of anyone recruiting for a new study, please let us known and we will post it here. I personally am in favor of also keeping track of what is being studied in other parts of the world, so I will add studies from other countries as well unless you tell me otherwise.

GlaxoSmithKline and Theravance launch 'Beyond Advair'
Having achieved successful results in a Phase IIb trial, GlaxoSmithKline is set to progress the development of its once-daily ICS/LABA combination product, which is currently being referred to as 'Beyond Advair'. However, even if trials progress rapidly, Beyond Advair's launch is still expected to lag behind those of generic fluticasone/salmeterol and new competitors.
GlaxoSmithKline and Theravance have announced positive results from the Phase IIb study of their novel long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) 642444 ('444) in patients with moderate to severe asthma. The study, which was designed to evaluate the efficacy of five doses of '444 administered once-daily for four weeks, showed dose dependent improvements in lung function.....read more

What's happening at the farm
This section is my little ego corner, where I will keep my own little diary of my COPD. Those of you who have been around for a while know by now that I am trying to manage my COPD with the fewest drugs I can get away  with. Having found that there are some natural remedies available that can be just as supportive as drugs, I have decided to rely on those as much as possible.   From this link you can reach my personal home page.
